The birds : Johan Koster
The choice of breeding birds was not difficult for me. As long as I can remember my father has reared birds. You can say that the love of birds is given to me at my birth.
At this moment I am farming the fischerie and personata, both the wild color form. The last 2 years I am also concerned with the cultivation of the fischerie's blue mutants.
From the moment that I have my own place, I always have bred with the wild color fischerie.
For more than 10 years later, the love of fischerie has not become less, rather more.
This is also due to the fact that the results of the exhibitions in the last period are (very)good.
The personata is another story. When I visit a breeder (now over 6 years ago) in the neighborhood my attention was drawn at a number of birds with a yellow band and a black head. And yes, they were for sale. 3 couples bought and the fischerie was not the only feathered friend.
After several years of experience I can say that the cultivation of a good fischerie is much "simpler" than the cultivation of a good personata. My experience with the fischerie is that if you have a good birds pair the young birds will be good. Please do not Understand me wrong, not every bird is an immediate hit, but the quality is at least acceptable.
The personata is different. Couples can bring good birds one year and the next year thee can give average birds.
The selection by the personata is in my pen much more critical than the fischerie. Not only the bird itself but also its origin assessed and brothers and sisters.
At this moment I have 30 proven fertile breeding coupels. The relationship between the fischerie and personata is right, 15 couples personata and 15 couples fischerie's. The 15 couples personata's are only the wild color. The fischerie is still a division in the wild flocks and blue color mutants. Here I have 4 couples proven blue mutants and 11 flocks of wild color.
After the exhibition period (January) I tray a few new couples. These are the young birds who for the 1st year have participated in the exhibitions. The new couples flocks only 1 round. This is because these birds are used again at the next exhibition season.
At the end of the breeding period (May / June), I select the best breeding couples. This selection is made on the basis of the young’s in the past and the young birds of that farming season. In this way I start each year by breeding a limited number of breeding couples. The breeding couples that are not supported trough the selection will be sold.
