Hello, I'm Johannes Koster and I live in Tzum (Friesland).
In 1973 I started breeding birds. Initially of all kinds of birds. Later, I became more interested in parakeet-like. For many years I have bred with neophemas.
From about 1990 I started breeding with the agaporniden.
Reason for the switch to the lovebirds was that I wanted to be intensively involved with the hobby. Also participating in exhibitions began to interest me. That agaporniden are suitable for exhibitions everybody known’s.
Initially I started breeding with the Fischerie's, later, partly under the inspiration of my son, also with the personata.
The wild form is my favorite color. But to get some more color in my loft, I also breed with the blue and violet Fischerie.
That is also why I have started with the cultivation of grass parakeets a number of years ago. With grass parakeets you think soon "even" number one young’s to grow and prices to address the exhibition. You can forget about that.
First, it is difficult to obtain good breeding material.
Then comes the question which bird has to bee coupled to another bird and in practice even more difficult is what you get from a certain link. In practice This is very difficult by the grass parakeets. When there are youngsters you have to wade and see If the quality meets your (own) standard.
